“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character ~that is the goal of true education.”

~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Greetings Martin Luther King Jr. Dove Family:

Welcome to this new and exciting school year! My name is Chanelle M. Thomas,  and it is an honor and privilege to serve as your proud Principal of Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School, Home of the Doves! I strongly believe that we will have an amazing school year, and I am excited to begin this journey with you, even as we face this new challenge of normalcy of Remote Distance Learning during this unprecedented time of the COVID-19 Pandemic. During this time, it is vital that we work together to focus on continuing our work towards educating our children for academic and social emotional success! This school year will be geared towards assuring that our vision is upheld as we guide our learners towards academic success, college and career readiness and exposure to 21st century skills through virtual remote distance learning .

Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School is a school that prides itself on our shared vision that:

“Seeks to guide each student towards college or post-secondary education by providing a high quality education in a safe, student-centered environment that is positive, caring, culturally responsive, academically rigorous, and where each student learns the skills and develops the necessary abilities to be prepared and successful for his/her future.”

I have continued to work diligently with all school stakeholders to continue to uphold our vision and meet the needs of all of our scholars during these very challenging times. We will foster an aesthetically pleasing, safe and nurturing learning environment where our kids are actively engaged in learning and are excited to come to school and engage in remote learning  daily. I am committed and passionate about working to enhance and strengthen our community partnerships collaboratively with our staff and parents to continue to support our school goals and be proud of the work we are doing for our children. I am confident that they will graciously accept our appeals to support our continuity of  our learning community for the benefit and success of our amazing scholars. I accept this charge and thank you in advance for your willingness to work collaboratively with me to do the same. Take care, stay healthy until we can return to school in person! I have faith that we will reach our goals as I reflect on the ideals and words of the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr;

"Faith is taking the first step even when you can't see the staircase."

With a Servant’s Heart,

Chanelle M. Thomas, Principal
