WEEK of Monday, June 5 --Friday, June 9, 2023 is Spring Spirit Week!!
- Please see the Spirit Week Flier for details and daily attire.
- Monday, June 5, 2023- Staff and Students wear their favorite super hero t-shirts/ attire!
- Tuesday, June 6, 2023- Regular Day Dismissal at 2:30 pm
- Students and staff wear Disney themed attire like costumes, Mickey/Minnie Mouse ears, etc.!
- Wednesday, June 7, 2023- Students and staff wear summer themed outfits like summer dresses, hats, Hawaiian shirts/shorts and/or summer colors.
- 10:00 am-11:00 am- PALS, UTK & Kindergarten End of Year Celebrations in classrooms (Rooms: 4, 10, 11, 15 &16)
- 1:30- 3:00 pm- Soccer Tournament for 3rd-5th Graders (FINAL Game: M.L.King Jr. ES vs. New Heights Charter)
- Thursday, June 8, 2023- Students and staff wear their favoirite college t-shirts to honor the 5th grade culmination today!
- 9:00 am- 5th grade Culmination on the main yard
- Friday, June 9, 2023- Students and staff wear their MLK school t-shirt/sweatshirt or school colors (blue & white).
- Today is the last day of instruction for the 2022-23 school year!! Regular dismissal at 2:30 pm!
Looking Ahead in June, July & August 2023:
- Summer School will be here at King Jr. ES! From June 26- July 25, 2023! You may pick up a Summer School Application in the Main Office.
- Tuesday, August 15, 2023- First Day of Instruction for 2023-24!

Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School is a naturally integrated, urban neighborhood school dedicated to nurturing the whole child. Located in the heart of Los Angeles, our school has a diverse student population in terms of ethnicity, language, socio-economic status, and learning needs. With its humble beginnings dating back to 1914, Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary, formerly known as Santa Barbara Elementary, has been a mainstay in the community for over 100 years! Here at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary, "Home of The Doves", we prepare our students to be college prepared and career ready. We are proud to be partners with such USC's Troy Camp, the UCLA Center X Teacher Education Program, the USC Joint Education Program. We are a School for Advanced Studies Demonstration Site which is a program designed to improve educational options and increase professional training to support our youth. With dedicated parent volunteers and staff, King, Jr. Elementary is a wonderful place to grow, learn and work!
